Nashville Residents Encouraged to Take Part in PROJECT HAITI with Shoe Charity Soles4Souls

Over 400 locations in greater Nashville area participating in grassroots effort for victims of Haiti earthquake; event runs until February 13

NASHVILLE TN -- Soles4Souls Inc., the international shoe charity dedicated to providing free footwear to people in need, has announced PROJECT HAITI, a grassroots campaign to engage the general public in collecting gently worn footwear for victims of the January 12 earthquake that devastated the Western Hemisphere's poorest country. The charity has already pledged one million pairs of shoes to be distributed to Haitians during a sustained giving plan in coordination with other agencies.

"This is a simple yet effective way for Nashville residents to help our friends in Haiti during the worst of times," said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls. "We are proud of our local community and its ongoing support of our mission to change lives with the simple gift of shoes,” he said.

Until February 13, over 400 Nashville-area locations will serve as collection points. There are five staffed major collection points, including Southern Hills Medical Center, Plastic Surgery Affiliate, LP Field, GodWhy Church and the Soles4Souls warehouse. All H&R Block locations will also be collecting shoes.

"We are proud to partner with Soles4Souls for this community effort and invite Nashville residents to clean out their closets and get involved in improving the hopes of so many people affected by this terrible tragedy," said Tom Ozburn, CEO of Southern Hills Medical Center. "A pair of shoes will help improve the safety and health of every Haitian as they struggle to rebuild their shattered country,” he said.

Shoe Carnival retail stores will be collecting financial donations at the point of sale at all stores.

PROJECT HAITI also gives Nashvillians the ability to create their own grassroots project by using Soles4Souls’ new fundraising website. Go to www.giveshoes.org and click fundraise now to get started. “Our process is unique because organizers can create a customized fundraising engine in less than 10 minutes,” Elsey said. “It’s an easy and effective way to mobilize your neighborhood, church, school or social circle,” he added.

The five staffed collection centers will be open from 12-6pm Monday-Friday and 10am - 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. For more information on Soles4Souls and its relief partners, visit www.giveshoes.org.
