Mount Werner Classic Goes Green

The Mount Werner Classic in Steamboat Springs, Colorado has made a huge effort to be more of an environmentally friendly event. The 5 and 12 mile race has completely eliminated cups from this year’s race by using handheld water bottles. They will also use biodegradable flatwear and napkins, and organic food will be served.

Other efforts include recycling old trail and road running shoes at the start. Gently worn shoes will be donated to Soles4Souls.

Preregistration is available at or until noon today at Ski Haus. Race-day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in Gondola Square. The 12-mile run begins at 8 a.m. with the 5-mile run to start at 8:30 a.m.
