Diane Eskenazi, the Director and founder of Peace Builders, said many of the children had never experienced lace up shoes. Adults were enlisted to do the unlacing and lacing and most children needed to have the function and position of the tongue demonstrated for them, she said. Soon the same boys would put these newly acquired skills to use as they eagerly and generously helped the younger children.
"All of the children couldn't wait to put their shoes to the test," said Eskenzi. "They were running, jumping, dancing or just standing and admiring their newly shod feet!”
